How to optimize Internal Linking?

Internal linking is a vital need for blogging and it should be optimized so that your readers and web crawlers can find it easy to navigate in your site or blog. You can follow the below mentioned tips to optimize your internal links:

Keywords in Anchor tags:

We all know what are anchor tags? So, we will not talk about them from scratch. For optimizing internal linking you need to take care of your anchor tags. You can use keywords for anchor tag text. Using keywords as anchor tags text tell the web crawlers that the linked webpage and the text are closely related & important. It is a wise thing to do a keyword research using Google Adword keyword tool to find out most significant and high performing keywords for your blogs. It will help you improve your keywords ranking in the SERP.

Title:

There are a few attributes of an anchor tag which are very important. Fist is the “href” which holds the hyperlink to some web address and the other is title. As the name tells a title attribute tells the search engine what the anchor tag is all about. It displays a tool-tip containing the important information about the anchor tag which is very important for better SEO of your blog. You can also check out why it is important to add title and alt attributes in images to optimize them for search engines.

Avoid Labels:

While doing internal linking you should avoid linking to the labels. This tip is very important for Google Blogger users. The web crawlers can not crawl the labels links completely. So you should avoid linking to them. You can also make the blogger labels nofollow, which are displayed under or above the blog posts to avoid getting the penalty by the Google Algorithms. Using too many labels in your blog can degrade the SEO of your blog and can make your blog more prone to the penalty imposed by strict Google Algorithms such as Penguin & Panda.

Link the Best ones:

Always choose your best articles and content for internal linking. A quality blog post is always liked by readers and search engines. You should be able to analyze what are the most relevant and significant articles that can be used for internal linking for your current articles. It will help you to give your readers and crawlers a better navigation to the related articles.

Anchor tag length:

Do not use lengthy anchor tag text for internal linking. The anchor tag text should be precise and expressive. Using long anchor tag texts is not a good SEO practice.

By following the above mentioned tips you can easily optimize your internal linking and give your readers and web crawlers a better navigation.
