Make Blogger comments Nofollow

Hello Readers, in this post we will learn how to make your blogger comments section nofollow. Nofollow is the flag which tells the search engines that the hyperlink is not relevant and they can skip the link. Adding nofollow flag to your comments section will improve the SEO of your blog. Sometimes people visit your blog and leave hyperlinks in your comments section. They do spamming in the comments section. If you do not add a nofollow attribute to it; it will degrade your site's or blog's SEO. Google along with other search engines like Yahoo and Bing skip the external nofollow hyperlinks that means if you have a nofollow hyperlink in your comment section search engines will not crawl them.

Wordpress has many tools and plug-ins for doing this task. But blogger users will have to do this manually by editing the template. If you are still confused why to do this, let me tell you its importance.

Doing this is not a hard task, if you know a little HTML/XML; you can do it quickly without any trouble. You need to follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First of all to prevent mess, take a backup of your blog. I recommend it every time you do editing in your template. To take backup go to Template from your blogger dash board. Click on backup/restore and then download the template.
  • Now click on Edit template and check the expand widgets checkbox (already checked in new blogger template editor).
  • Search for this code- expr:href='data:post.createlinkurl' by pressing CTRL+F.
  • Add rel='external nofollow' or rel='nofollow' just after the closing quote.
  • Click on preview to make sure, there is no error in your template code.
  • If everything is fine (I assume it is), Click on save and you are done.
