Images are very important for our Blog posts. We add images to our blog post to make people better understand about our posts and if you optimize your images before uploading them you can boost/increase your blog traffic to a great extend. We always focus on the blog content for SEO but images plays equally important role in SEO.

Many users search for images on the web using search engines like Google. Google image search is the most used image search tools around. If you have optimized your images then they will appear in the search results and you will be gifted organic traffic whenever someone views or downloads your images. You can also build a loyal audience with this. Now that you know the importance of optimizing your blog images, we shall take a look at the process.

How to optimize blog images:

Before explaining the whole process let us see the HTML image tag which is used to insert an image into your blog.

<img src="IMAGE-SOURCE" alt="ALTERNATIVE-TEXT" title="TITLE-TEXT" />

The above written code is the HTML image tag. I have only mentioned 3 attributes of this tag that we are going to focus on. The 'src' tells the image source, 'alt' displays an alternative text and 'title' shows text whenever someone hover on your images. In the optimization process we will be taking care of all these attributes. Now let us see how you can optimize your blog images:

Image Name:

Whenever you download an image to add on to your blog or in to your blog post, you should consider renaming it. Sometimes when you download any image it is named randomly, which is not a good SEO practice. Use a short name that explains about the image. Don't use special characters in the image name. Try to put a keyword in the image name. Like i write for smartphones and tablets, i name my images with the name of the devices, so that they can appear in the search results if someone searches for that device on the Search engines. Image name is a part of the 'src' attribute and has a great importance.

ALT attribute:

Now comes the 'alt' attribute of the image tag. Alt displays an alternative text behind the image and normally you see it when your image source doesn't work. But it is very important in terms of SEO optimization. If i write alt="SEO tips" in the image tag, it will tell the search engine robots that this image is about SEO tips. I guess now you get the importance of ALT attribute.

Title:

Image title is a text line which is displayed whenever someone hover mouse pointer on the image. Title should be illustrative and short, so that a user can get the idea behind the post.

New Blogger interface has made things very easy. You can insert these really important attributes without worrying about editing the code. You need to follow these simple steps:

1) Log in to your Blogger Account and create a new post.
2) Upload an image to your blog post and click on it (Rename it before uploading). It will show options like this:

3) Now click on the properties encircled in the above image with red color.
4) It will pop up a window like this:

5) Now add the image alt tag and title tag directly into it.
6) Click on ok and your are done.
